A tiki is a carved statue in the form of an exaggerated human face that is significant in ancient Polynesian cultures for its supernatural power over evil. Tikis were believed to give people protection, strength, power, and productive crops. The tikis in this game aren’t authentic replicas, they are stylized to show the beautiful variety and soul of the culture, but they are beautiful, colorful, and so fun to play this game with!
So…are you up for a tactical totem challenge?!?
Tiki Topple is a game of “Totem Domination,” a strategic race to rearrange the tiki tower according to the order shown on a Secret Tiki card.
Players take turns playing action cards that allow the movement of individual tikis to move up, down, or off the board entirely.
The game is played in rounds. Each round ends when all the players are out of action cards and the 6th tiki is removed from the board. The Secret Tiki Card indicates how many points each player gets depending on the arrangement of the tikis at the end of the round.
For example, If Nani is in first position, this player would get 9 points. If Hookipa is in 2nd or 1st place, this player gets 5 points. If Nui is in 3rd, 2nd, or 1st place, this player gets 2 points.
Players mark their score on the scoring track on the board. The game ends after 3-4 rounds, depending on the number of players. The person with the most points wins!
Tiki Topple is easy to learn, is fast-paced, tactile, and so much fun! It’s a great Gameschooling jumping off point for conversations and research about mythology, cultural traditions, Polynesian people, geography, and so much more.
