Many moms I’ve talked to are resistant to the idea of
gameschooling because they don’t like to play games. Or so they think…
Today’s games are not like the games of our childhood. They’re clever, beautifully designed, and companies like Blue Orange have taken classic games like memory and spruced them up a bit with wooden components and slightly more complicated game play, making it a game that adult and children can enjoy playing together!
Memory is one of my favorite early childhood games to play. Maybe it’s because I have a terrible memory and I’ve read the research about how playing memory and other puzzle-like games helps strengthen memory skills even in adults. I need all the help I can get! Plus, it’s a fun challenge where kids actually have an advantage over most adults! At least that’s the situation in my house…
PENGOLO is a fun take on the classic memory game where 12 wooden, hollow penguins hide their colored eggs. Roll the dice and find the hidden matching eggs.
Roshambo always helps us decide who gets to go first!
Pay close attention to which eggs have been uncovered so when it’s your turn, you know right where the colors can be found!
When it’s your turn, roll the dice and lift two penguins to uncover two eggs. If neither of the eggs match the color on the dice, replace the penguins and pass the dice to the next player. If one egg matches, take the penguin and its egg and place it in front of your iceberg scoring board. If you find BOTH eggs, place them in front of your scoring board and take another turn.
The first player to collect six penguins wins!
Pengolo not only helps strengthen
memory skills, it also reinforces color recognition and is a great supplemental resource to a unit on arctic animals, flightless birds, geography, or life cycles/food chains. The components are very nice quality, just what we’ve come to expect from our favorite
Blue Orange games!
