MY REVIEW

When I saw that Our Best Bites was putting out a new cookbook…thrilled. And doesn’t that cover just make you want to get in the kitchen and bake?!?

I got the first one and have used it a ton in the last year. The recipes are straight forward, easy, basic, use normal ingredients, and it’s all stuff my family will eat and love.

Feeding 3 kids ages 5 and younger is tough, but most of the Our Best Bites recipes we’ve tried have been complete hits!

And I love the concept of organizing a cookbook by season. Love it! Especially after a long summer of wondering what to make for dinner…I didn’t want to turn the oven on or eat anything hot and we did not really eat well all summer. If only I’d had this cookbook then!

I started out with the Autumn section, obviously, and tried 4 new fall recipes. I love using fresh seasonal ingredients and this cookbook makes eating fresh fruits and vegetables in their season so easy.

Hearty Whole-Grain Crescent Rolls & Chicken and Wild Rice Soup

My favorite thing about colder weather is hot soup and fresh baked bread.

Both of these recipes were easy, delicious, healthy, and my kids loved them! We spread tons of gooey honey-butter on those hearty rolls and wolfed them down like nothing. Time to make some more!

The rolls are a half white/half wheat blend with seasame, poppy, flax, and sunflower seeds. So light, fluffy, hearty, and delicious!

And the soup was very satisfying and delicious with carrots, celery, chicken, and wild rice. (I actually used brown rice because that’s what I had and my kids, who claim to hate brown rice, loved it!)

Pear-Gorgonzola Farfalle

Pasta salads are one of my favorite dishes to make, eat, and especially take to family dinners/dinner parties. I love new and interesting ingredient combinations and this one was so yummy with a pear/butter sauce, Gorgonzola, craisins, and fresh parsley.

The pear flavor was so interesting and unexpected – I love a surprise in a pasta salad!

Peanut Butter Popcorn

I am a popcorn girl. I grew up eating tons of fresh popped popcorn around the dinner table with my family on Sunday nights. It was our weekly Sunday night tradition and we still do it when we’re all together.

I like plain old buttery popcorn, but every once in a while it’s nice to deck it out a little bit. This Peanut Butter Popcorn recipe (listed for free at DeseretBook.com) combines a handful of my favorite things – peanuts, peanut butter, chocolate, and popcorn. So easy to make, delicious, and FUN!

We have already found a few new family favorites and we’ve just barely covered the Autumn section. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the book will bring to the table. I’m already looking forward to winter’s S’mores Hot Chocolate, Baked Brie, Pear Pomegranate Salad, Vegetable Beef Barley Soup, and Peppermint Mousse Cake and I can’t wait to rotate our recipes with the seasons.

Find Savoring the Seasons at Costco, Deseret Book, and Amazon and thanks so much to Kate Wells and Sarah Jones for another winner!
