MY REVIEW
I had the pleasure of using Pirates by Emily Taylor to make my latest quilt. Two of my favorite quilts so far have been made with Riley Blake Fabrics, and I was so excited for the Pirates line! Nothing is quite as boyish as pirates…
And look at these great fabrics! This is only 5 of the 6 in the black/red color scheme and there are also reddish and blue/green color schemes that are both just as fabulous. I tend to gravitate towards blues and greens and wanted to try something different this time, and I loved the color variations in this line.
Here are all the different fabrics in the line – it’s impossible to choose a favorite!
I did a quilt I like to call Random Rectangles (the same pattern I used for Gus’s quilt with Riley Blake All Star 2 but smaller) – I’m pleased with how it turned out but I do wish I had used some complementary solids to really set off the prints in the actual Pirates line. That was a good lesson to learn, and I’ll never make that mistake again!
I decided to do 8 blocks with just a big section of the main print fabric, and I love how that turned out. That was my favorite print, the one in the top center with the pirate ship and treasure map and skull and crossbones. I also love love the Phrases print and the Dots. I love them all!
I did a narrow white border and then a wider black border on the very outside and I’m going to quilt waves all around the edges. I’ll take more pictures and I think it will look much better after it’s all quilted.
I found this sample quilt using the Pirates fabrics (I don’t remember where now, I’m sorry! If it’s yours leave a comment and I’ll link to you!). I love how she used that big square in the center. So cute!
This display is from Quilt Market, which I only found out about after it was over. Agh!
The other set of prints up for giveaway is Alphabet Soup. This line is yet another reason for me to want to have a girl in our family someday!
I love the bright colors and all the girly prints!
Riley Blake has some great new fabric collections coming up. These two are my FAVORITE!
Scoot by Deena Rutter
and So Sophie by My Mind’s Eye. Every time I think I have seen the cutest collection ever, I find one I like even better. This is my new top-of-the-list favorite.
