One of life’s greatest pleasures is playing legitimately fun games with children, especially 4/5 year olds. They are so easily delighted, and playing this game is especially delightful!
Dragomino is a My First Kingdomino game so it’s similar but much simpler as far as new domino placement and also scoring. It’s a quick game (about 15 minutes) for 2-4 players.
Every player gets a starting tile and then the game is played through a series of rounds. At the beginning of each round, the number of players +1 domino tiles are laid face up on the table. The starting player for the first round is the youngest player and is the player with the Mommy Dragon token in future rounds.
Each player chooses, in turn order, one new domino and places it so that it connects to their other tiles. When matching dominoes are placed next to each other, the player takes a dragon egg in the matching color and lays it face up on the intersection of the matching dominoes.
There are 6 different colored dragon eggs. Each color has a different number of discs, but there are always 7 dragon eggs. The rest are empty egg shells. You’re more likely to get a dragon if you pick a color with fewer total discs.
A dragon is worth 1 point at the end of the game. An empty egg shell is worth nothing, but each time a player plays an empty egg shell, he takes the Mommy Dragon token from whoever has it.
The player with the Mommy Dragon at the beginning of the next round gets to go first!
The game continues to be played in this way – selecting dominoes and adding them to your own grid, trying to match up as many colors as possible to earn dragon eggs.
When all the tiles are gone, the game ends and dragons are scored (1 point each). The Mommy Dragon token is 1 point for the player who has it at the end of the game.
This game provides some wonderfully fun beginning strategy practice and lots of counting and matching. My 4 year old twins LOVE this game and have gotten so good at picking tiles to maximize dragon egg selection AND adding up points at the end. They love playing, and I enjoy playing with them. Dragomino is a game EVERYONE will enjoy!!!
Thanks to Blue Orange Games for sharing this matching, counting, preschool, kindergarten game!
