For all my Builder Buddies out there, here’s another fun way to work on all those great tactile skills that building toys and games help kids develop.
It’s called Cloud City and it’s a new game from one of our favorite game makers, Blue Orange Games.
The goal of the game is to create a 3×3 city model. Each player has 3 tiles in their hand to choose from each turn and places tiles so as to create the longest possible walkways between buildings. The walkway and building colors must match and there are a variety of restrictions just to keep things interesting.
Turns are not necessarily quick in this game! Players need time to work it out spatially in their minds. It’s a great skill building game to improve fine motor skills, spacial reasoning, creativity, lateral thinking and planning, and more!
Players have to be very strategic and careful in building their city. Walkways and buildings must match in color and building placement depends on the tiles played.
The player to get the most walkway points is the winner at the end of the game! Longer walkways are worth more points than shorter ones, so players have to start building their city with the end in mind.
Finished cities should have 3 separate levels, thus complicating the design. This game is so good for all the engineering/logic skills that are a part of so many professions today. Skill building is one of the most effective results of gameschooling!
When each player has completed his 3×3 city grid, count up points and determine the winner.
This game doubles as a Lego-like toy for my boys as well. They love to use it just to build intricate, amazing cities.
For this game, GAMESCHOOL SUBJECTS covered = spacial reasoning, logic, fine motor skills, creativity, lateral thinking and planning, problem solving, and math! So many great skills and lots of fun to play with kids of all ages.
Thanks to Blue Orange Games for sharing Cloud City with us!
