Coupons can be great, but you have to be smart and careful. I recently subscribed to the local Sunday paper to try out their coupons to see if I will actually save money.I got my first paper on Sunday, and I wasn’t too impressed. There were only a few coupons for items that I buy regularly, mostly because I don’t buy very many brand name items. I shop the sales and buy store brands when there are no sales.
The key to saving money with coupons is waiting until the item is on sale and then using the coupon on top of the sale.
You think, “Duh!” but you’d be surprised how many people don’t do this. People get into trouble with coupons when they go out and buy things they wouldn’t normally buy and really don’t need, just because they have a coupon.
I am going to keep track of how much money I actually save buying items that I would have purchased anyway. I’ll let you know how it goes…
