Boys love competitive physical challenges, and I like game that incorporate these characteristics because while they suit that boyish need to conquer and dominate, they’re still fairly mild and safe. Life with boys is always interesting!
Rhino Hero is a fun way to develop tactile/manual precision skills in a competitive, suspense-filled way.
The game consists of Wall Cards and Ceiling Cards. The first player begins by placing walls on the foundation card and a roof card on top. All roof cards have line indicators to show where the next story’s walls need to go. They also have a special symbol, indicating an extra action to take before the next player’s turn.
Special Symbols include:
- Change of direction
- Skip a turn
- Draw an additional card
- Play a second roof card
- Place the Rhino Hero
When the Rhino Hero symbol comes up, the next player has to take Rhino Hero from his previous position and move him to the current top card. As the building gets taller and more wobbly, having to place Rhino Hero becomes risky and eventually, certain death!
Players take turn building walls and placing roofs until
- a player has used his last roof card OR
- the building topples over OR
- all the wall cards have been used.
The goal of the game is to NOT be the player to make the tower fall. It can get really really tall, and that’s what makes this game so fun for boys! The danger, the risk, the possibility for sudden destruction!
This game captures my boys’ attention and focus. They are never so careful as when they’re playing this game!
Rhino Hero is a fun brain-break game but also has some great gameschooling elements. Don’t tell the kids… manual dexterity and careful, precise movements are good for little boys to practice. They learn that they CAN be slow and careful, and that’s a lesson I want all my boys to learn well.
Best of all, Rhino Hero is a fun game that can be played by most all ages with lots of players for good family fun.
