This poem is the perfect description of what books are to me.
Books are keys to wisdom’s treasure;
Books are gates to lands of pleasure;
Books are paths that upward lead;
Books are friends. Come, let us read.

In my last semester of college I took a calligraphy class and I actually used this poem for my Italic alphabet project. Calligraphy is beautiful, especially the Italic alphabet, but it is also very difficult. I had no idea how much time and practice calligraphy requires. This project didn’t turn out nearly as beautifully as I had hoped, but I suppose it was permissible for my first go at it. Perhaps someday I will master the art of calligraphy. I’ll put it on my list of things to do anyway…
