You know I LOVE a game that covers multiple subject areas, and Nerd Words: Science is a great game to learn a HUGE variety of science related words. There are over 400 different science terms included in this game, and playing has been quite educational for me!
Science is not my strongest subject as a teacher, so I make sure to play all the science games with my kids so I can learn along with them. This has been a fantastic game for me to become more familiar with more science stuff!
This game is really fun with older kids, and it is challenging! It can be played in teams, so lots of people can play, making it a great party or co-op/classroom game.
Here’s how to play:
- One player from one of the teams is chosen to be The Clue Giver
- The Clue Giver chooses 1 Science Term from 1 of his cards
- On the Nerd Words card, the Clue Giver writes the number of words in the science term
- The Clue Giver gives Clue #1 and bets 0-4 points that at least one of the teams will guess correctly after the first clue
- Rules for Giving a Clue
- Clues must be a single word
- Clues must begin with a letter from the science term (a clue within a clue!)
- Clues may NOT use any words contained within the science term
- No other clues are allowed!
- Each team submits their guess and may bet that their guess is correct on their Team Card
Teams that guess correctly get points for themselves and the Clue Giver, teams that guess incorrectly lose points. If neither team guesses the science term, another clue is given following the same rules until hopefully, after a few tries, someone guesses the term!
The science terms are well chosen and we’ve had good success coming up with good clues that follow the rules. Sometimes it takes a few tries, but we usually get it! The fact that every clue has to begin with a letter in the science term really helps and is a clever rule!
The betting adds another fun element and motivates the Clue Giver to give good clues to help the teams guess.
We’ve had a lot of fun learning new science terms by playing this game and honing our vocabulary skills. Coming up with good clues is the hardest, think-iest part of the game, and it’s so good for all our brains to get a science word workout!
Whether you’re a science nerd or not, we think you’ll love this game!
