My first favorite thing is a book I found at the library. I loved it and my husband got it for me for Christmas! It’s The Complete Book of Rhymes, Songs, Poems, Fingerplays, and Chants by Jackie Silberg and Pam Schiller.
The name is pretty self explanatory; It’s a book of rhymes, songs, poems, fingerplays, and chants! I loved doing little finger plays and singing songs with my mom and grandmas when I was younger and it’s something I do with my son almost every day. There are a few songs I’ve recently learned that I sing when he’s fussy and that seems to calm him right down.
I like to take some time each morning and afternoon to read and sing to my son. I will have new songs and poems to teach him for years to come with this book.
There are over 700 selections that are organized alphabetically by title. Many of the songs have a little note that tells you the tune. For example there’s a song called Cap, Mittens, Shoes, and Socks (Tune: Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes). The fingerplays include the actions so you know what to do.
The authors who wrote this book have also written other books like this for different age groups. This book would be a great resource for daycare, pre-school, or even elementary school teachers.
I love it!
