We are getting A LOT of Gameschooling in this holiday season, which has been so much fun. It’s really nice to take a break during the holidays and still learn (of course!) but not worry about lessons or curriculum or deadlines. There’s enough going on during the holidays, who needs normal school?!?
Ecologies has a new standalone/expansion game (see my review of the original game here) that has even more beautiful, beautiful, beautiful cards. I LOVE the illustrations from Montrose Biology so much, they are so beautiful and fun to look at. I love EVERYTHING about the design and play, it is a top-notch science game!!
There are all new Factor cards…
And seven more completely unique Biomes. There are so many interesting organisms in this Bizarre deck!
The game is played the same and can either be played as a stand alone game or as an expansion. Just choose 10 factor cards and 7 biomes from the 2 decks, mix them together, and play as normal.
Players Draw, Trade, Play, and Purchase cards on their turns to build a complete food web, beginning with a Biome card and building up to include organisms from all of the trophic levels.
I love that the rule book encourages players to come up with their own rules – we usually draw and play more than 2 cards each turn to make the game go more quickly. But my kids LOVE reading their cards, looking at the amazing pictures, and building their food webs. Boys love carnage and there’s nothing more hard core than animals eating each other in the wild. :)
We love this beautiful game to play as part of our science time. There are so many possibilities for rabbit-trail learning – some of these Biomes we have never heard before! Games like this encourage my kids to be curious and ask questions, and nothing is easier these days than asking and answering questions, all we need is a catalyst to get the fire burning.
Thanks to Montrose Biology for sharing this beautiful game with us!
