Decorating Help

I really have a hard time decorating my house because I have all these ideas, but when I have the money to get everything I freeze up or change my mind.

For example, we just sold a piece of furniture and all this time I’ve been wanting to sell that thing and use the money to get a chair for our bedroom. Now that we have the money, I’m rethinking my decision to get a chair! I think, “Is that really what I want? Would I rather do something else with the money? Should we just save the money?”

I find myself regretting some of my decisions, mostly because I settle for something I don’t absolutely love because the price is right. One thing my husband has taught me is that if you buy something because it’s cheap and not because it’s what you really want, it’s a waste of money anyway. It’s better to spend the extra money to get something that you will love than to waste less money on something less expensive. It sounds good when he says it, but it’s harder for me to make the shift in my own thinking.

So I’ve been having this decorating dilemma. We bought a house a year and a half ago and I’ve been slowly figuring out what I want. I’ve made some bad decisions and gotten some things that I’m regretting now, and I’ve figured out why that happens! Maybe my discovery will help some of you.

Previously I have really jumped around and gotten something for this room and another little something for another room. That is not working for me because when I get around to finishing the room, I often change my mind about the first thing I bought.

So. I’ve decided to tackle one room at a time! Brilliant, I know. Right now I’m working on the nursery, then I’ll move to the living room or our bedroom, etc. I think this is going to work out much better for me because I can plan an entire room all at once so I don’t end up with mismatched things that I hate. Smart, eh?

Please share your decorating tips with me. I consider myself to be somewhat sensible when it comes to decorating, but I still do require help and clever tips from you all, so give me your best household decorating ideas! Thanks!
