The dream of becoming a millionaire is finally within reach! Can you build your fortune and keep it???
That’s what Cover Your Assets is all about. Build AND protect your fortune before someone steals it!
Grandpa Beck’s card games are some of our very favorites. They are games we are always pulling out to play as a family and when we have gatherings. It’s easy to learn, quick to play, but not so simple to win!
Each player is dealt 5 cards and has three options each turn:
- Form a set – lay down TWO matching cards in front of you on the top of your stack.
- Discard a card
- Challenge and attempt to steal
If you have a pair of matching cards in your hand, you can lay them down in your pile of assets. There can only be TWO cards in this initial lay-down. The top stack of each player’s pile is up for grabs, so if you want to keep it, hurry and cover it!
Players draw back up to the 5 card limit at the end of a turn.
To challenge, lay down a card that matches the challenged player’s top asset. That player can protect their set by playing another of the same card or a wild card from their hand. The last player to lay down either a matching card or a wild card wins the challenge and gets all the challenge cards AND the challenged player’s top stack to place on top of their own pile.
Assets range in value from $5K – $20K with a few $25K Silver and $50K Gold wild cards that can match any assets but are also worth their face value at the end of the game. You want to collect as many wild cards in your stacks as possible!
Cover Your Assets gives kids a chance to practice some large number addition when adding up the final score. It has been a good way for our family to practice making sets of 100 to simplify the addition process. It’s also a great game to practice flexibility and good sportsmanship. Getting all your money stolen can be frustrating, and some kids may struggle, but practice makes perfect!
This is just a tremendously fun family card game. The latest edition has some extra rules to create even more chaos and intrigue.
We love Cover Your Assets; you will too! Thanks to Grandpa Beck for sharing with us!
