I am almost finished with The Tale of Despereaux: Being the Story of a Mouse, a Princess, Some Soup, and a Spool of Thread, by Kate DiCamillo (Newbery Medal winner in 2004). Put it on your list of books to read! It’s a fun story about a mouse, a rat, a princess, and a servant who wants to be a princess, and I just discovered that they’re making it into a movie!
This would be a fun one to read together with your children, maybe a little each night before bed. It’s a quick read and would be perfect for younger kids.
