*10 FRAME TOWERS* Preschool Number Fluency Building Game

Preschool at our house isn’t academic at all. We don’t worry about reading or formal math or anything but playing and having fun! Play is a very effective teacher.

We’re starting to work on identifying sums of 10, I like to call them The 10 Friends, by rolling dice and making towers with these ten frame pieces. My little guys are starting to familiarize themselves with a visual representation of the numbers and how they fit together to make 10.

Sometimes they use these 10 frame towers to play a game – roll the dice and stack the towers up, trying to build the tallest tower before it topples! Matching up 10 Friends makes it sturdier…

But mostly they just play with numbers and are learning all the while!

Play is a teacher’s best friend!

They’re not just learning about numbers and math, they’re learning to share, take turns, and collaborate. Preschool kids can get pretty good at these skills through play.

Making math visual and concrete builds a solid foundation for future math. Kids love numbers and playing with toys, so it’s a fool proof strategy for prepping young minds for learning!

Thanks to Junior Learning for sharing with us!
