Japanese Stab Tutorial – Sewing Instructions
Now that you’ve watched me sew the book together, here are some simple written instructions that you can print out and use as a reference.
Materials
- ribbon/thread
- scissors
- sewing needle (large eye)
- glue (optional)
1. Bring needle up through the second hole from the left and pull thread through until you have a 2″ tail.
2. Go around the spine and up through the second hole again.
3. Go down through the next hole to the right (third from the left).
4. Go around the spine and down through the third hole again.
5. Go up through the next hole to the right (fourth from the left).
6. Go around the spine and up through the fourth hole again.
7. Go down through the next hole to the right (fifth from the left).
8. Go around the spine and down through the fifth hole again.
9. Go around the tail edge of the book and down through the fifth hole again.
10. Go up through the fourth hole.
11. Go down through the third hole.
12. Go up through the second hole.
13. Go down through the first hole from the left.
14. Go around the spine and down through the first hole again.
15. Go around the head edge of the book and down through the first hole again.
16. The tail you left at the beginning and the end of the thread are now on the underside of the book. Tie a square knot above the second hole from the left.
17. Put a small amount of glue around the knot to keep it from slipping.
FINISHED!!! That was so easy and fun, too!
